The deceiver, Satan, is very subtle and plants thoughts into our minds so many times and we are not aware of it. One of his devices is to spread lies through riveting, emotional stories which have characters many of us can identify with and have compassion for.... even though it's just fiction. I enjoy an "edge of your seat" novel as much as the next person, but after years of studying the Bible and also reading "The Screwtape Letters", I have been able to see many of Satan's subtleties which I couldn't see before.
Before this series ever came out the Holy Spirit showed me that the whole idea of vampires is an attack by Satan on the precious blood of Jesus. Remember, Jesus told the multitudes that to be His disciples, they must eat of His flesh and drink His blood. We know that He did not mean to literally drink His blood. If it were not for his sacrifice, we could not have eternal life. Yet, in these fictitious stories, the vampire who does drink blood, rather than having an abundant, rewarding life is tormented and wishes he could die. This is to plant the thought in our minds that eternal life is not a good thing.
Philippians 4:8 8Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
I think I'll read the true word of God rather than man's fiction (another word for “not true”... i.e. a lie)
